The sourcing rule
Every verified cell carries an official .gov source_url + date_checked. Un-curated cells are needs_verification (noindex,follow) — never fabricated. Exact fees included only when the official page states them; else null. In practice: a state/vehicle-type page shows the full process — the agency, the documented steps, the required documents, and any published fee — only once we can cite it to that agency’s own page. We never invent a step, a document, or a fee to fill a gap.
A page that has not cleared that bar is marked needs verification. It still exists (readers looking for that state still find it, and it links onward to the right agency), but it renders an honest “not yet verified” notice instead of unconfirmed content, and it is excluded from search indexing until it is sourced — see About for why.
What “verified” means
- The agency and its official page have been confirmed to be the correct source for that state and vehicle type.
- The listed steps and required documents come from that official page, not a third-party summary.
- A published fee is included only when the official page states it; otherwise the fee field is left blank rather than estimated.
- Every verified page shows the date it was last checked and links directly to the source.
Current coverage
289 of 357 state/vehicle-type combinations (51 jurisdictions × 7 vehicle types) are verified as of 2026-09-02. The rest are marked needs verification and are being worked through a per-state research pass.

What’s explicitly out of scope
This site does not cover boats, vessels, watercraft — those typically register through a separate marine or wildlife agency with a different process entirely.
Refresh cadence
complete the remaining (state x vehicle_type) cells via official-source verification (per-state DMV/DNR research pass); periodic fee/step re-verification with date_checked refresh.
